Pressure Transmitter Explained | Working Principle
Powered by Genesis Technomation India Pvt. Ltd.
In today’s world of industrial automation and process control, accurate pressure measurement plays a vital role in maintaining efficiency, safety, and performance. A Pressure Transmitter is one of the most essential devices used to monitor and control pressure levels in various systems — from manufacturing and oil & gas to water treatment and chemical processing.
At Genesis Technomation India Pvt. Ltd., we provide high-performance pressure transmitters designed for precision, durability, and seamless integration with modern control systems.
What is a Pressure Transmitter?
A pressure transmitter is an electronic device that measures the pressure of liquids, gases, or steam and converts it into an electrical signal. This signal can be sent to a PLC, DCS, or SCADA system for monitoring and automation control.
Pressure transmitters are widely used to:
Monitor pressure levels in tanks and pipelines
Ensure consistent process performance
Detect leaks or abnormal conditions
Improve system safety and reliability
Working Principle of a Pressure Transmitter
1. Pressure Sensing Element:
The transmitter has a sensor diaphragm made of stainless steel or silicon. When the process pressure is applied, the diaphragm deflects proportionally to the pressure.
2. Signal Conversion:
This mechanical deflection is converted into an electrical signal (usually a voltage or current) using a strain gauge or piezoresistive sensor.
3. Signal Amplification and Processing:
The signal is then amplified, processed, and converted into a standard output signal — typically 4–20 mA, 0–10 V, or digital HART output — that can be read by industrial control systems.
4. Transmission and Control:
The processed signal is transmitted to controllers or monitoring systems like PLC or SCADA, allowing operators to monitor and control the pressure in real time.
